History

More than 20 years ago the children’s ministry leaders and elders at Grace Community Church had a vision to create a God-centered children’s curriculum. This vision was born out of a collective desire to see God exalted to His rightful place as the Hero of every Bible story. Sadly, many curricula we encountered were man focused, story driven, or lacking biblical content.

Our vision also included the desire to teach the whole counsel of God in such a way that every child, no matter the age, would learn from the same passage of Scripture at a level they could understand and apply. This would allow every child, and even every family, to talk about the same Bible story each week.

In April 2002, we set out to create a God-centered curriculum that teaches Scripture in a way that unites families and children of all ages around God’s word. Working with a team of over two dozen Sunday school teachers, parents, illustrators, editors, and elders, Year One of the curriculum was completed in 2003 and was immediately taught in our own Sunday school ministry. This initial phase of testing, which included 50 additional churches spread across the country and overseas, provided invaluable feedback while Year Two of the curriculum was being written.

In September 2005, three years and 10,000 man-hours later, the first complete edition of the curriculum was completed. By 2006, the number of ministries using Generations of Grace had grown to over 400. A revision of the curriculum began in 2012 and was completed in September 2015. This new edition includes greater accessibility, full color illustrations, and numerous new resources to produce an even more effective tool in the lives of teachers, children, and parents. Today, Generations of Grace is being used by over 3,000 churches, missionaries, and home school groups scattered over 30 different countries and is translated into both English and Spanish.

In May 2017, the first workings of the Adventure Club curriculum began. This curriculum was designed to be a supplement to the Generations of Grace Sunday School curriculum as a mid-week program, and a systematic theology for children. By September of 2017, the first edition of the curriculum had been created for use in our mid-week program, but there was more to come. The following year, Adventure Club was re-branded and re-launched in our children's program with great success. From there, the Adventure Club curriculum has continued to grow and improve to the curriculum that it is today.

Generations of Grace continues to encourage parents, teachers, and children in the truth of God’s Word. It is our prayer that lives would be impacted, hearts would be transformed, and disciples would be made through the teaching of the Bible to future generations.
